Power comes from the barrel of the gun is an saying, coined by some military genius whose name I cannot recollect now. In today's political environment and based on what we see around us, politics is the key source of power, particularly when this brand of total politics takes over the government of the country, as we see in Bangladesh today. MP, the popular abbreviation for member of parliament , seems to stand for muscle power these days, used by those who have it under the blessings of the party in power , against which even the normal law enforcement authority, comes second best.Right is might is supposed to be the cornerstone of democracy but in Bangladesh, once elections are over, many people in power freely exercise personal power of might is right in no uncertain manner. This is the democracy that we see around us where politicians in power exercise power in the principle of winner takes all brand of muscle based power. Democracy is left behind , going into the pending file till the next national election comes around.
